Many of my favorite people around the world benefited from living and studying abroad. High school exchange programs are, in my opinion, the absolute best use of international development dollars – the absolute best investment the United States can make in forging and maintaining peaceful relationships with other countries, developing sustainable economic partnerships, and strengthening our nation’s society. Host an international exchange student, and be a part of making the world a better place, for all of us.
Opportunity to Host a State Dept. Scholarship Student
Do you know people who are interested in your own experience abroad? Are you, or someone that you know, interested in learning about different cultures and languages or playing an active role in shaping the global perspective of a young leader from abroad?
American Councils for International Education is an international non-profit seeking to connect with individuals and families across the U.S. about the opportunity to host a high school age student on one of three merit-based, U.S. State Department-sponsored scholarship programs.
Students:
Students participating on State Department scholarship programs have undergone a competitive selection process in order to earn the right to represent their countries in the U.S. Participants live with American host families, attend local high schools, make cultural presentations, perform volunteer community service, and participate in activities that build leadership skills and an understanding of the important components of a civil society. Students and families are supported by a local American Councils representative in their area.
Hosting:
Individuals and families interested in hosting should be able to provide their student with a safe, nurturing and primarily English-speaking home, a bed and place to study, meals and snacks, and assistance with getting acquainted with their community and transportation. Anyone can host: those with teenagers or children at home, retirees, “empty nesters,” and single parents.
If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about this opportunity, please feel free to share this e-mail and contact information, or contact American Councils directly at inbound@americancouncils.org, 866-790-2086 or 202-833-7522. We can then connect you with a local representative in your area. You can also learn more about us at http://apps.americancouncils.org/acinbound.
